Your health and safety, and that of our staff and volunteers, is our top priority. COVID-19 is an evolving situation, things are changing quickly, and the CN Tower is closed until at least April 14, 2020. So, WWF-Canada is transitioning the 2020 CN Tower Climb for Nature to a virtual event that will still take place on April 4 and April 5.
We encourage all virtual climbers to check in with their local governments to ensure they’re adhering to the most up-to-date social distancing practices to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Instead of climbing 1,776 steps up 144 flights, we’re challenging our supporters to do a “virtual” CN Tower Climb for Nature. You can do it however you like. Walk 17,760 steps (an equivalent of about 13 km) for wildlife. Go up and down the stairs in your house 144 times or use a stair machine. Do a dance-a-thon! Or come up with your own awesome challenge idea.
Set aside time on Saturday, April 4 or Sunday, April 5, pick a challenge that works best for you, and work up a sweat for nature. And don’t forget to use a phone or fitness tracker — and the hashtag #VirtualCNTowerClimb — to show your donors and your community that you’ve achieved your goals! And please, keep fundraising because nature can’t wait!
Stay tuned for more information on how we’ll be supporting you through your #VirtualCNTowerClimb.
The CN Tower Climb for Nature is WWF-Canada’s most significant fundraiser. The donations you have collected support our vital conservation work, from protecting caribou nurseries in the Arctic and preventing ship collisions with orcas in the Pacific to using nature itself to fight the ever-growing climate crisis occurring all across our country. We encourage you to let your donors know that although the event is now virtual, their funds will still be directed to support the great work that we continue to do to build a future in which people and nature thrive. That hasn’t changed.
Rewards are our way of recognizing you for your support and great fundraising work. If you are eligible, your fundraising rewards will be mailed to you after your Virtual Climb. All participants raising a minimum of $120 are entitled to a free event t-shirt. Please contact us if you think your address information is not up-to-date in our system.
You will be guided through the registration process. Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*); please make sure to fill out all required information. Check out the other registration tips on this page if you need additional help. Or give us a call or email at 416-484-7700 or email@example.com.
You can still be part of WWF-Canada’s Virtual CN Tower Climb for Nature by donating to someone who is participating or to the general event.
There is no registration fee for the Virtual CN Tower Climb. The $5 fee for time chips will now be directed towards covering the cost of shipping participant t-shirts and prizing which will occur after your Virtual Climb. This fee is non-refundable, non-receiptable and non-transferrable. The $5 fee is not included in the minimum fundraising total that is required to be eligible to receive a t-shirt.
The suggested minimum fundraising amount for all participants is $120 per person.

Yes, you can register on April 4 or 5 and participate.
Yes. All participants must sign a waiver. Please read the guidance below carefully, as participation in the event is not possible without a valid signed waiver. Participants who register online will electronically sign the waiver during their registration process. If a participant is under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must electronically accept the terms of the online waiver on the participant’s behalf. Those who have already registered will be emailed a new waiver to sign digitally before April 4 & 5, 2020. A printable waiver can be downloaded here.
Online donations, made on our secure website, are by far the best method for individuals to sponsor your climb. Your sponsors will immediately be sent their e-receipts. Your personal fundraising page will register new donations as soon as they have been made online.
Unfortunately, Facebook's fundraising platform does not currently link to our WWF-Canada
fundraising system, so we are not able to link these donations to your fundraising efforts. Please
register for the event and
use your fundraising page to collect donations credited towards your climb fundraising goal. Find your climb fundraising page
The benefits of using your climb fundraising page are:
When dealing with cash or cheques from donors, you have two options:
1. The donor can write the cheque in your name and you can enter the donation on your credit card under their name. These same steps can be done for cash donations. Please note: For this option, you will need their full name, full address, email address and phone number. This will then appear in the thermometer on your profile. The donor will be emailed a tax receipt automatically.
2. The donor can write the cheque to WWF-Canada and you can mail this in with a pledge form to Attn: CN Tower Climb, WWF-Canada, 410 Adelaide St. West, Suite 400.
For online donations a tax receipt will automatically be issued for donations of $5 or more. Tax receipts for online donations are automatically emailed to you from our system. If you made a donation and have not received your receipt, please contact our Events Team at firstname.lastname@example.org or 416-484-7700.
For offline donations of $20 or more you will receive a tax receipt in the mail after the climb.
In compliance with CRA guidelines, if you choose to receive a benefit for your donation, as is the case with fundraising rewards, you may not be eligible for a tax receipt. To ensure that you are eligible for fundraising rewards and receive a tax receipt, please donate to another climber.
When someone self donates and receives fundraising rewards of value less than 10 percent of the
donation and less than $75, a receipt for the full donation amount is issued. This meets the CRA
requirement of the benefit received being less than or equal to 10 percent of the donated amount,
being less than or equal to $75.
For a climber who self-donates $500 and receives fundraising rewards worth $45, this meets the CRA requirement of being less than or equal to 10 percent of the donation and that it is less than $75 and so the donor will receive a tax receipt for the $500 donated.
For a climber who self donates $1000 and receives rewards worth $110 this does not meet the CRA requirement noted above. If the donor would like to accept the fundraising rewards, the value of the fundraising reward is deducted from the tax deductible amount and the donor receives a tax receipt for $890. ($1000 - $110 = $890)
For a climber who self-donates $1000 and would like to receive a tax receipt for the full amount donated, the fundraising reward is capped at the $75 value (which is less than10 percent of the gift amount and less than and equal to $75).
Please note: Fundraising rewards for fundraising amounts of $1000 or more may not be awarded at the event. If they are not awarded at the event, they will be mailed to climbers shortly after the Climb.
You can see the list of top individual and team fundraisers on the bottom of the Climb homepage.
The Platinum Panda Experience is a front of the line experience for individuals who raise over $1,000. Stay tuned for details on how Platinum Pandas will be recognized for their hard work.
